Just wanted to send you a note thanking Magnetech for a great job on our crane repairs. You guys have an excellent crane tech in Hank. Our maintenance manager, safety manager and I were highly impressed with how Hank reacted to his findings on our north bay crane and was able to coordinate last minute manning requirements and work with our operations people to get the repairs done in a quick and safe manner without interrupting operations. Please let Hank know we really appreciated his professionalism and cooperation in getting these repairs done. I can assure you with service like that, Magnetech will be awarded all our crane repairs and inspections going forward. We were very impressed!

Presently Lake Erie Works has two Taylor TS9971W reach stackers converted to slab handlers. The primary function of these units is to load slabs from a field location onto rail cars or flatbed truck trailers. The dimension and weight of the slabs varies, but the majority of the slabs are around 25 tons. Magnetech has provided the lifting beam, diesel electric power supply, magnets and controllers……the unit has been working very well and Lake Erie Works has been able to ship steel safely and efficiently. The support from Magnetech has been exemplary and problems and concerns have been addressed promtly and professionally.

We cannot afford to shut down this mill. High steel production, hot ‘dog bones’, and high summer heat caused unforeseen havoc on a pair of hot-bottom, bi-pole magnets at our Virginia mill. With coordinated efforts, working around the clock and weekends, Magnetech picked up, rewound and delivered these magnets back within one week’s time. Awsome work!!

We have a 35 year history of magnet repairs at our facility, and Magnetech has been a big part of that history. In 2001 we started up our Asset Reliability Department with the belief we could better manage our equipment while decreasing our downtime and repair costs. A short time later with our magnet repair costs out of control and hovering between $225, 000 to $250,000 per year Magnetech introduced us to their MagneTrac program. By partnering with Magnetech, taking advantage of their magnet operator training, and utilizing several low to no cost recommendations discovered during MagneTrac inspections we were able to drop our annual magnet repair cost to around $120,000 within the first year. With everyone struggling through the downturn Magnetech has been there for us providing low cost on time repairs and support.

We often complain about suppliers not being responsive or having a sense of urgency regarding our material requirements so I am taking a moment this morning to recognize the excellent service we got from Magnetech this weekend. 

One of our SD80′s scheduled to go to Mexico was in need of a grid blower which is a non-stock item. I received a call Saturday morning asking that we get this blower repaired as quickly as possible. I called Bob Grounds at Magnetech, told him what we needed and that we were going to have the fan expedited to them in Huntington. The fan arrived at Magnetech Sunday around 6PM and was immediately brought in for evaluation and repair. They worked all night repairing the fan and had it ready by 6AM Monday morning. 

Magnetech has always done a great job for us, but in this case they went the extra mile. I’m not sure what we do to recognize our best suppliers, but I wanted to make sure they knew just how much Waycross Locomotive and CSX in general appreciated their efforts.
